2020 was a challenging year as families struggled to put food on the table. In the other rooms volunteers take pallets of donated food products and sort them into 17 different categories.

The east texas food bank relies on volunteers to help us fulfill our mission. At this time to protect the health and wellness of our staff, volunteers will not be accepted. Volunteers must bring their own time sheet.

When you volunteer at the food bank you become a hunger warrior. No child under the age of 6 will be allowed to volunteer. Give time by volunteering your time is a gift to hungry kids, seniors and others who may not have enough to eat.

In general we ask that volunteers be willing to help at least once each month, and signing up for twice a month (or more) is preferred. Minors between the age of 6 to 13 are allowed to volunteer only if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Training is provided at the beginning of each shift to help volunteers know what food is good to keep, and what category different food items go into.

We have food distribution at our onsite pantry in texas city every tuesday, wednesday, thursday from 9am to 3pm and fridays from 9am to 12pm. Volunteers produce the equivalent of a meal a minute while helping the houston food bank sort, process and pack food. We welcome all volunteers over the age of 8*, and have a variety of volunteer opportunities available for individuals, families and groups.

Volunteers are needed mondays from 8:00 until noon, wednesdays from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm, and thursdays from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. The north texas food bank works to provide meals to those facing hunger in north texas. “in 2017, we were able to distribute more food to the community than ever before through the help of our volunteers, staff, and partner agencies,” said ellen weaver, volunteer resources manager. The food pantry's hours of operation are monday, wednesday and friday from 1pm to 5pm.

“the primary source of donated food is the retail community, and that tends to be flowing out as quickly as they can bring it in,” said dan maher, president of the southeast texas food bank. As part of this, the volunteer hours will be implementing additional protocols that go into effect wednesday, march 18, and remain in place until further notice. Every volunteer experience is a little different, for example, at epfhfb, we need your help sorting and packing food, gardening, or educating the community. All volunteers are required to register at volunteer registration, once you are registered you will be able to choose your time slot to volunteer. Minors between the age of 14 and 17 may volunteer with the parents or legal guardian’s approval only.
